Elizabeth Brode of Harrington, DE and her family adopted Nala from the KCSPCA in April of 2012. Elizabeth states she had a good experience with the KCSPCA shelter staff and that they were very helpful and kind. Shelter staff was able to share with Elizabeth and her family that Nala was a pugle (pug & beagle mix) stray and that she was partially house-trained. Elizabeth states that while it did take some time getting Nala used to her daily routine, there really haven’t been any issues and she’s blended in with the family quite nicely and her daughters Halie and Chrissy absolutely love Nala! When Elizabeth and the girls are gone to visit her family in Texas and it’s only Nala and Daddy, Nala gets very sad and misses them terribly.
Elizabeth says that she has allowed her older daughter Halie who is nine, to work with Nala on some informal training. Halie now has Nala sitting and staying to receive a treat! Nala sleeps on Mommy’s bed, on her feet every night and puts Mommy to sleep with her snoring! She’s such an awful snorer that the girls call her, “our pigle” because when she snores, it sounds like a pig.
When she’s not practicing her sit and stay commands or sleeping (and sawing logs), Nala likes to sit by the back door at night and bark at the rabbits and cats that wander around the neighborhood and “chase” them through the house. When they are all home, Nala rarely leaves Elizabeth’s side and is like her little shadow. Elizabeth and her family cannot imagine a life without Nala, who is a complete and adored member of the family.
